On the Afsluitdijk, near Kornwerderzand, stands a striking building that sits like a foam crest on the dike: the Afsluitdijk Wadden Center. In this center, you can experience the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wadden Sea, the IJsselmeer region, the globally unique Fish Migration River that is being constructed here, and of course the Afsluitdijk itself. Against this interactive backdrop, visitors get a vivid picture of the area and the many hydraulic engineering and other innovative projects that will be realized here in the coming years in collaboration with our partners.
Interactive experience center
Every Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., you can visit the interactive experience center at the Afsluitdijk Wadden Center. Experience life in the Delta through the centuries and discover how the Afsluitdijk protects us from rising sea levels. Start in the storm room and take a journey from historic storms to contemporary solutions.
Restaurant Skom
Would you like to enjoy coffee, lunch, or cake with a view of the IJsselmeer? You can! Our restaurant is open every Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., even if you are not visiting the experience center.
Be surprised by our menu, prepared with local ingredients, while you enjoy the peace and tranquility of the water on our covered terrace. Restaurant Skom is also the perfect setting for your business event, family gathering, or networking drinks.
For the whole family
Planning a day out with the whole family? The Afsluitdijk Wadden Center is suitable for young and old, offering educational and enjoyable experiences. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by a beautiful view of the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea. In the visitor center, you can learn about the history and future of the Afsluitdijk, where children can playfully explore the dike and the surrounding water through the interactive experience center.
