On the Afsluitdijk, near Kornwerderzand, stands a striking building that sits like a foam crest on the dike: the Afsluitdijk Wadden Center. In this center, you can experience the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wadden Sea, the IJsselmeer region, the globally unique Fish Migration River that is being constructed here, and of course the Afsluitdijk itself. Against this interactive backdrop, visitors get a vivid picture of the area and the many hydraulic engineering and other innovative projects that will be realized here in the coming years in collaboration with our partners.
Interactive experience center
Every Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., you can visit the interactive experience center at the Afsluitdijk Wadden Center. Experience the story of what the Netherlands has to offer in terms of safety, nature and tradition. Themes such as the province of Fryslân, the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea and the Fish Migration River take centre stage.
Restaurant Skom
Would you like to enjoy coffee, lunch, or cake with a view of the IJsselmeer? You can! Our restaurant is open every Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., even if you are not visiting the experience center.
Be surprised by our menu, prepared with local ingredients, while you enjoy the peace and tranquility of the water on our covered terrace. Restaurant Skom is also the perfect setting for your business event, family gathering, or networking drinks.
For the whole family
Planning a day out with the whole family? The Afsluitdijk Wadden Center is suitable for young and old, offering educational and enjoyable experiences. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by a beautiful view of the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea. In the visitor center, you can learn about the province of Fryslân, the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea, and the Fish Migration River, while the children can enjoy themselves in the interactive experience center.
